Look out for the Habibie Festival - 11 August 2016 in Jakarta

The upcoming Habibie Festival is the hottest event in Jakarta this month. Taking place on 11 – 14 August 2016 in Museum Nasional Indonesia, the Habibie Festival celebrates the 80th birthday of BJ Habibie, previous President of Indonesia and Minister of Research of Technology.

BJ Habibie was Indonesia’s 3rd president, and the 1st president to follow President Soeharto’s 31 years in office.  Often referred to as the “Father of Democracy,” BJ Habibie led the process of democratization and political openness in Indonesia.

But BJ Habibie is known for much more than establishing the world’s 3rd largest democracy. Aside from being the “Father of Democracy,” BJ Habibie is maybe better known as the “Father of Technology.”

Before his time in the presidential office, BJ Habibie spent 20 years as the minister of Research and Technology – this is longer than any other minister in Southeast Asia has held this position. As an aerospace engineer, BJ Habibie holds more than 40 patents to his name, and has paved the way for Indonesia in the fields of science, research, and technology.

This four day event is held in commemoration of Bapak BJ Habibie’s 80th birthday, and in anticipation of the advancement of innovation in Indonesia.

The Habibie Festival promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) to create future Indonesian leaders.

So what exactly is happening at the Habibie Festival? The festival features interesting exhibitions and workshops about Bapak BJ Habibie and his achievements, as well as groundbreaking technology and new scientific inventions.

With an exciting selection of activities for all ages, the Habibie Festival provides fun, education and entertainment for the whole family!


Just a few of the events you can look forward to include fun science workshops by Da Vinci Learning, Indonesia’s first Mobile Planetarium by Ilmuwan Muda Indoneia, 3D Printing and Virtual Reality exhibitions, a stunning Batik bazaar by Batik Keris, and the exciting Primehouse Media Selfie Competition.
