1. TransJakarta/Busway
TransJakarta or Busway is a great way to get around the city, and is limited to Jakarta only. Unlike the other city buses, TransJakarta runs in its own dedicated lanes, freeing you from the daily traffic jam. Often times, other vehicles do try to sneak into the TransJakarata lane, which may cause slight delays. TransJakarta is a fairly cheap public transportation to use and you can also use e-ticket to use it everyday. However, it can get extremely crowded during rush hours.
2. Mikrolet/Angkot
This thing sucks, big time, honestly said. Mikrolet or angkot (angkutan perkotaan) is a kind of minivan that can accommodate 10-12 passengers (normally). But, most of the drivers sometimes will overload the angkot in order to get more money. Each angkot in Jakarta has different color and number depends on where it is going to. The main problems with this thing is that it does not have any air conditioner and it will stop very often to get another passenger. The main benefit of Mikrolets or Angkots is that they travel on routes that most buses don't take, such as through housing areas. We don't recommend you use this if you are in hurry.Bus
If you are staying in Jakarta, you will see many smoky buses running through the street everyday. There are many kinds of buses: Kopaja, Metromini, and others. If you have never experienced this public transportation before, then we recommend you to try it, just for the heck of it. It is very hot inside the bus and mostly overloaded with passengers. The bus will stop very often to take other passengers that stop it. If you are planning to take this challenging public transportation, then please pay attention to your stuff, as pickpockets are a-plenty!Ojek
If you let us to be honest with you, then this is by var the best way to travel around Jakarta. Why? Because it is cheap, fast, and fun. Now, it is very easy to get ojek via applications that you can install on your smartphone, such as GoJek, GrabBike, and more. The applications will allow you to know the fare, the drive information, and the distance to your destinantion. Yes, traffic in Jakarta most of the time is crowded. But, by using ojek, the riders can take you fast to your destination by using shortcuts.
KAI Commuter JaBoDeTaBek
This is a train that can take you to Jakarta and some cities around it, such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Bekasi. Most of the trains are in good condition, so you do not have to worry about their cleanliness. Commuterline is commonly used by people who work in Jakarta but live in the surrounding cities. If you are going to use this kind of public transportation everyday, then you can use e-ticket.
Well, those are some public transportation available in Jakarta. We hope you enjoy your days in Indonesia.
